“Leaders are the ones who keep faith with the past, keep step with the present, and keep the promise to posterity.”
- Harold J. Seymore
Whether you believe you are a naturally born leader or a leader in training, your involvement in a fraternity or sorority at NDSU will allow you to enhance your leadership skills. Greek students are highly involved within their chapters, in a large number of student organizations, on campus committees with faculty, staff, and administrators, and on local community boards. It is through these opportunities that Greek students develop the “real-world” experience in leadership that is attractive to potential employers.
Within the fraternity or sorority that you join there will be a number of appointed and/or elected positions for you. Whether you enjoy crunching numbers as Treasurer, teaching others as Member Education Chair, coordinating media relations as Public Relations Chair, developing policies and judicial affairs as Standards Chair, planning events as Alumni and Social Events Chair, or working with your hands as Chapter Operations Chair there is a leadership position for you! Greek students are selected to be members of Order of Omega, the Greek leadership honorary society, and Gamma Chi Lambda, the Greek leadership program.
Why are these involvement opportunities so important? It is through these leadership positions within fraternities and sororities that members enhance their communication skills, learn how to resolve conflict, run formal meetings, develop educational and social programs, network with NDSU faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and local community leaders, and prepare for life after college!
Greek students are also active in many of the top student organizations on campus including Student Government, Residence Hall Association, Bison Ambassaors, Campus Attractions, Blue Key Honor Society, Mortar Board Honorary Society, Little Country Theatre, the Gold Star Marching Band, and a number of academic, service, and honorary organizations. Beyond student organizations, Greeks are actively involved in many of the leadership programs facilitated by the Memorial Union including LeaderQuest, The Omega Project, Masters of Success, TeamQuest, Kujenga, and the President’s Student Leadership Conference.
